Reading Groups

I wanted to give you a look at the types of lessons we do during our morning reading groups....

Garrett is blending sounds to write words on a white board.  For this lesson, I give the students a word card face down, I tell them the word and they need to write it on their white board.  We talk about "chopping up" the word into sounds before we try writing it.  When they have the word written correctly they get to flip over their card and check their work.  They like to see how many words they can do before time runs out.

Jayden's mom helped us out at reading groups last Thursday.  She is practicing sight words with each student while they work on their "Winter Colors" books.   Sight word review is so important to helping the students become more fluent readers.

In Taia's group, Mrs. Klema was reviewing "sneaky e" words with the students.  After highlighting all the vowels in each word, the students drew a picture to demonstrate they  could read the words.  They all did a great job on this lesson!
